Will a Waterproof Mattress Protector make your mattress hotter or affect its heat dissipation?

The Impact of Waterproof Mattress Protectors on Heat Dissipation

1. Breathable Outer Layer Design: Modern waterproof mattress protectors use natural fibers such as cotton, brushed wool, or Tencel for the outer layer, combined with a microporous TPU backing. This achieves waterproofing while maintaining airflow, reducing heat buildup to some extent.

2. Breathability of the Waterproof Layer: Waterproof layers made of polyurethane (PU) or thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films possess "breathable and waterproof" properties. Moisture is blocked, while water vapor can escape through micropores, helping the mattress dissipate heat and prevent dampness.

3. Actual User Experience: Although the waterproof layer increases surface thermal resistance to some extent, the overall temperature increase is limited due to the fabric's moisture-wicking properties and microporous structure, usually not leading to a noticeable stuffiness.

4. Proper Use to Enhance Heat Dissipation: Regularly airing the mattress and maintaining a gap between the mattress and the protector (e.g., using elastic cords for securing) can further improve air circulation and reduce the likelihood of nighttime temperature increases.
