What are the differences between a tufted quilt and a regular cotton quilt?

Nov 21, 2025

1. Different Manufacturing Process and Structure

Tufted quilts use a tufting process, creating dense pile on the fabric, enhancing its three-dimensional texture and feel. Regular cotton quilts are mostly plain-woven or single-layered, lacking this textural depth.

2. Balancing Warmth and Breathability

The tufted structure maintains air layers while creating tiny insulating spaces, making the quilt warmer in winter and more breathable in summer, improving comfort year-round. Regular cotton quilts rely mainly on the filling for warmth, with relatively lower breathability.

3. Durability and Aesthetics

Because the pile is fixed to the base, tufted quilts are more durable, less prone to pilling, and have richer textures, adding a decorative touch to the bedroom. Regular cotton quilts are prone to fiber loosening or deformation after long-term use.

4. Flexible Customization

Quilts using the tufting process are easy to embroider, print, and undergo other secondary processing on the fabric, meeting personalized needs. The secondary processing cost of ordinary cotton quilts is relatively higher.
